” I truly hope my music will help to educate military families and civilians, as well as help to heal those that have shared in some of the same experiences.”. – Shannon Book
Shannon, a native of Hazel Green, KY, grew up with a profound love for music, showcasing his vocal and instrumental talents throughout his life. However, Shannon’s sense of duty to his country led him to join the United States Navy in 1994 after the events of Desert Storm. After undergoing training as a Fleet Marine Force Hospital Corpsman at the Naval School of Health Sciences in San Diego and Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton, CA, Shannon served in two combat deployments in Iraq.
As a way to alleviate the emotional strain of combat and deployment, Shannon turned to music, playing the guitar and singing during his downtime. He even began writing his own music, reflecting on his own and his brothers’ experiences.
After serving in the military for 17 years, Shannon retired as a Petty Officer First Class due to PTSD and TBI. He continued his passion for music by performing at various sporting and veteran events across the United States, including singing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. Shannon was the lead vocalist/lyricist and rhythm guitarist for the band Vetted from 2015 to 2017, performing in front of 60,000 people at the 2016 Invictus Games.
Following his departure from Vetted, Shannon dedicated himself to honing his skills and enrolled in audio production classes. In 2020, he started recording and releasing some of his fan favorites, including Let Me Fix Myself, No Man Left Behind, I Need to Breathe, Not Alone, and Dear Mom.
Despite his successful solo career, Shannon yearned for the camaraderie and energy of a full band, leading him to form Deliberately Broken after several years of performing as a solo artist with just his acoustic guitar and barstool.
